The Economic Policy Institute, on June 6, 2012, published a study online showing the marked relationship between economic inequality and union membership. In the 1920’s union membership was low and economic inequality high. Starting in the mid-1930’s, union membership rose and inequality declined. But since the 1970’s the trend has been in the opposite direction, with declining union membership and economic inequality rising to the level of the 1920’s. Be sure to read the short report and watch the narrated video graphs that you have to click on to find. The report itself can be found by clicking here. The page with the graphs is here.
