The Kids Count Data Center, a website initiative of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, gathered data at the end of May 2012 regarding 2011 unemployment rates, including those in Washington. The data show undeniably that today, and historically, unemployment rates have been higher among black and Hispanic people in the United States and in Washington. In 2011 in Washington, unemployment among non-Hispanic whites was 9.1%; among Hispanic or Latino people, it was 14.8%; among black people, 19.3%.
