GiveBIG 2021

Join the Fight for Unemployed Workers

Dear Friend of the Unemployment Law Project,

It’s time for GiveBIG Washington, the annual fundraising event where individuals like you come together to invest in our community, and the Unemployment Law Project is asking for your help.

We are on the front lines of fighting for unemployed workers. The ULP works to advocate for people who are denied unemployment benefits or having their benefits challenged by their former employer, and today we ask you to GiveBIG or GiveSMALL – no donation is too big and no donation is too small. We rely on donations of all sizes from our supporters.

In addition to supporting our ability to represent clients at hearings, your GiveBIG donation allows us to fight to improve the laws in Washington to better serve workers. This last month, ULP helped draft and testified in support of SB 5193, which passed both houses and requires ESD to:

  • Launch a training program to create a pool of adjudicators to have in reserve when unemployment claims levels surge;
  • Use plain language, tested on claimants for comprehensibility, in all letters, alerts, and notices;
  • Clearly explain the law behind all determinations, the relevant facts, the reasoning, the decision, and the result;
  • Dedicate a toll-free number for claimants with limited computer access or computer skills;
  • And much more!

In addition, ULP fights to overcome language barriers, institutional racism, and bureaucratic inaction. We need your help to continue that work. Please give today and make a difference.

Thank you,

John Tirpak, Executive Director
